Making real change for our environment

Waste to energy is the best available method to treat residual waste streams. The East Rockingham project will reduce carbon emission by approximately 300,000 tonnes of CO2-e per annum. We are committed to only operate on residual waste streams and be complementary to higher order waste management practices.

Waste Arising Contracts

Importantly all our Council customers will supply waste on a “waste arising basis”. That means they only supply residual waste after waste reduction, reuse, recovery and recycling efforts have been exhausted. There is no set volume of waste they must supply and that provides the flexibility to adapt and change waste management practices in the future.

Residual commercial waste will be supplied after being sorted at Suez’s transfer stations and material recovery facilities in the Perth area.

Helping our Local Community

This $511m project represents one of the largest private investments in the City of Rockingham’s history and the benefits to the community will be felt for the next 30 years.

Local Economy

During construction, some 500 jobs will be created and once operational 50 full time jobs will be created for the life of the project. Training will develop new skill sets for a new industry and WA will be the center of excellence for waste to energy Australia wide.

Partnering with the Community

The community was considered and consulted in the development of the East Rockingham Waste to Energy Project through the Environmental Approval and Development Approval processes. This partnership will continue during the construction and operations of the facility.
